First Annual LGBT Student-Alum Reception: Event Recap
On November 15th 2014, Q partnered with Alum Affairs to hold the First Annual LGBT Student-Alum Reception. We are pleased to say that we had Barnard alums from graduating classes that spanned the 1980s-2010s (many of whom were Q members in their time, or parents of our current members). In total, we had a 27 person turnout, including both students and alums.
SGA president Julia Qian and Barnard College Trustee Jyoti Menon spoke on the important role peer-alum connections have played in their lives (as a mentee-mentor pair themselves), and especially the importance of identity-based connections between students and alums.
Below are some pictures from the event. We hope to see you there next year!
SGA president Julia Qian speaking on the impact Q membership and participation has had on her life, and the necessity of thought when discussing our “assumed identities” (such as sexuality and gender).
Gail Cohan, MD BC’80 brought vintage Q shirts from when she was a Barnard student to display at the event (through the years Q has had many names, while Gail was a member it fluctuated between Lesbians At Barnard and Lesbian Activists At Barnard)
