Message from Claire below:

Don’t simply lend me your ears (or rather your eyes in this technological world) but please share with me your voices. This past Wednesday (February 28th) I (Claire) came in to speak with Q regarding the almighty curriculum review, primarily focusing on restructuring the first year foundation. To spare you all of the long winded explanation that I gave then, the general idea that was attempting to be iterated was this:

As an actively engaged campus with students who strive to critically

analyze their surrounding environments in order to make a

difference, our first year foundation courses should reflect this

ideology. Our incoming first years should be entering into an

environment that broadens the narratives with which they are

familiar and gives them the tools to critically approach vital topics

such as: power, systems, social structures, social institutions,

constructions of identity, deconstruction of current events, an ability

to challenge the silencing of voices often marginalized and to draw

upon perspectives that are often invisible.

At the meeting itself, I got a lot of really helpful and insightful feedback, as well as some phenomenal articulation of general concerns with the current model (which is definitely going to be reiterated and used in further conversations).

For those who spoke up: thank you for your voices.

For those in attendance and who are reading this now: thank you for your thoughts and consideration.

If YOU have any other thoughts, opinions, concerns, questions, etc, I would really love to hear from you! Please please please email me at cjb2180@barnard.edu and let me know what you think!Screen Shot 2015-02-19 at 3.22.48 PM
